HIDs = engine stall

Hey guys just the other day I started my truck up in the morning let idle for about a minute. Clicked on my parking lamps than headlights and than foglights. I did not do this in one quick motion but once the fogs came on the truck stalled than came right back on. it almost seems like the truck loaded up really quick than it went away. all the dash lights came on and so did my GPR led. it was almost as if i turned the key off than back on really quick. After doing some research and what not online. I called Retrofit Source where i bought the kits from and the guy told me its probably my ground. I have everything hooked right to the battery pos and ground. He told me to ground to the chassis where the battery grounds to. IMO its the same dam thing at the battery. I also read about interference with the ballasts and the ECM but I talked to the guy about that and he said if that was the case it would have happened right out of the box. Now for this morning I started the truck up let idle and than clicked the parking lights on than the headlights and bam the truck stalled and came right back. but did not do it with the fog lights this time. I talked to a buddy at my job and he said maybe its the headlight switch. Im leaning towards that but Im just very curious why after a while this just popped up. I have had the HIDS for about 3 months now with out a hiccup. Please someone help.

Thank you,
AJ

Have you tried unplugging the lights and then turning the switch to see if it still does it?

My pickup does the same thing in the mornings. Or generally when the engines cold.

I have a DP tuner, and HIDs on my main beams and fog lamps. Seems as if after i start the truck with the lights on it stumbles cold. And if I try to switch my tuner sometimes it will cut out and come back on just as you described, or it will shutoff completely.

I just ordered regular headlights for my pickup. I'm going to ditch the HIDs and see if it helps.

Had that stall happen to me too, not fun. You'll need some
RF chokes aka ferrite beads RF chokes aka ferrite beads
on the cables to suppress the interference from the HID ballasts.

Good thread on the subject LINK

But why all of a sudden did it effect it. If that was the case it should have happened from day one. And i started the truck after work and it did not hiccup. So she is sitting at my job for the night so I'll try in the morning.

What David said. Many guys have been there, give it a try or take off the tuner and see if it still dose it. Most said it inter -fears with the DP tuner.

I've tried putting on those ferrite beads. Helped some. But I'm up to 5. If rather ditch the HIDs. Tired of ppl flashing their lights at me anyways

I love the lights. And where i live i need the extra light. And they worked flawless up until Thursday but only in the morning. If it was interference than it would be consistent.

if they are big enough try looping the tuner cable through the chock as well. I see that on a lot of cables that hook up to the computer.

that is a standard issue with HID lights.
some people have had success with the ferrite connectors, others have found out the only way to fix the problem once and for all is to remove the HID lights

When I bought my truck it had 2 ferrite beads. It now has 5 looped around the cable. My truck doesn't always cut out or die, but it seems to be at its worst when it's cold outside.

I'm only 23 years old, but i understand We are all entitled to our own opinion bud. But as of late I've been thinking , is it really worth driving down the highways at 65-70 and having your engine cutoff temporarily (just for something as simple as me turning on my headlights or fog lights) ? Or even completely? Risking your life possibly , the people in your vehicle or others around you ?
It's a scary thought when i haul a camp trailer or even just in town maybe not being able to stop for somebody at a crosswalk.

I'm making the choice to tryn ditch the HIDs. Not guaranteeing any success. But i prefer the DP tuner, and if it's either the lights or the tuner. I'm getting rid of the lights.
