Trans filter

I have a 2008 F350 auto trans 6.4 engine. I have the external filter in front of the trans pan. I have searched and can't find when the filter needs to be changed. This is a job 1 if it makes a difference. I had the trans flushed at the dealer and they didn't change the filter. So when does it need to be changed??

I don't believe it ever needs to be changed if I am remembering what I read correctly. If the filter is clogged then you have a whole lot of transmission pieces in there

It should be changed every 30,000 miles. The internal filter on your trans doesn't need to be changed, the external MUST be changed.

An even better solution would be to change your system to the 2008 Job#2 system. That involves a better internal filter and a slightly larger pan, needed to clear the larger filter. With this filter you can delete the external, either by removing the media, or getting new lines.

If you live somewhere that gets well below 0F, you could have a problem with the updated parts. Ford changed the pump to fix a problem that happened well below 0F. If it doesn't get that cold where you are this will work fine.
