91 5.8 very high idle
as engine was in very high idle I unplugged the IAC and idle immediately dropped to normal or a tad lower than normal. It won't hardly idle in gear must keep foot on throttle to keep running. My question is since it dropped idle right when IAC was unplugged does that mean it's the IAC or does unplugging it simply put the ECU in some kind of safe mode?

Unplugging the IAC and the motor slowing down does not mean the IAC is bad. I believe one of the knowledgeable guys on here said it meant some sensor is bad.
I would guess the throttle position sensor is bad. If you don't want to spend 60 to 70 dollars guessing, you may want to do some testing.

That's what I was afraid of....there is no CEL light or codes and I am not the greatest EFI mechanic. I know about enough to be dangerous. If someone could steer me in right direction I know enough I could figure it out.
Also something I didn't add is the idle may be real high then suddenly drop to normal then suddenly jump high again. There is no set pattern it just changes at will.
