Gearbox For drag use on 4.9 engine?

Good: Ford T&C toploader 4-speed of the muscle car era in either 2.32 or 2.78 low ratio
Better: Same trans with Liberty special 2.87 low gear
Even better: Same trans with slick shifted synchro dogs by Liberty or similar

I used to use a T&C toploader with the special 2.87 frist gear ratio behind my 240 Class Eliminator motor, slick shifted and clutchless with a vertical gate shifter.
I now run a GM Powerglide. If you are doing a serious bracket racer I would consider one of these. It is what 95% of U.S. bracket racers use. It also has the advantage of being able to hold the car with a trans brake and spool up the boost on the line. They can be built to withstand 1500 HP.

"..not too expensive.." Got a budget? You are looking at $2500ish for a reman'd toploader:
Toploader Price List
Not many working $500 boxes left in the junkyards.
What kind of power and in what vehicle? You might be able to get away with a T5, probably under $1000 including adapter or input machine work:
Modern Driveline T5 transmission parts & conversion packages

To echo what others have said "what is the budget?" Nothing cheap in stick shift drag racing.
I ran a hybrid toploader (small spline input wide ratio gearset in a big spline output box) in my 69 mustang , 3.90 fe, 4.56, 28x10.5 slick, 3300#. Best et was 11.66.
It was to the point where it really needed to be "pro shifted" to reliagle. I had to replace the syncronizer assemblies afew times because of wear on the hub and slider. At the time(93) it was around $800 or so for liberty to modify it this way.
I bought a Doug Nash 5 speed from a friend for $650 and went that route. Pro shifted , much easier to work on , 100s of gear ratios to choose from, and added strength. Beat on that for 15 years.
Now I have a Liberty Equalizer . Not cheap but with a stroker 460 and 3300# thats what it needed. 11 passes on it with a best et of 5.89 in the 1/8 mile.
Here is a link to good running six with a stick.
I believe he has a nash behind his.

The only "budget" top loader I know is the 3 speed 3.03. I have three RAN tag ones and haven't had one problem with them. One is my high school car so I know it has been used and abused well and often with out problem.
RAN tag has a 2.99 first gear, 1.75 second, 1.00 third
RAT tag has a 2.42 first gear, 1.61 second, 1.00 third (These were behind big blocks not sure if the imput shaft dia is the same or not)
