Evening guys, I started working on the alternator of my sister's 2006 escape, I removed the wheel, the front plastic shield, then the caliper, rotor, sway bar link, tie rod end, strut bolts from the knuckle, then the cv axle nut, then the cv axle retainer and removed the cv axle, then I removed the exhaust, had two stripped bolts but the extractor sockets and some heat made it a lot easier, then I removed the front plastic cover of the alternator, then tried getting the rear piece. Apparently the rear plastic cover, you're supposed to take off after you do the alternator bolts, so you can turn the alternator and access the nuts for the cover, I didn't realize this and struggled mightily with removing that. I had to go to harbor freight and get some external torx sockets, so I packed it in for the night at that point. I really wish I had a lift to do this one!

I'm hoping to save my family around $1000 by doing this my self, repair shops want 8 hours labor plus parts, that's a huge bill for just an alternator!

Good evening everyone. That sounds like quite a job Kyle, it sounds worse than the one I did on my old Contour a few years ago.

Hannah came home this afternoon. She's in great spirits, it's really amazing the change in her demeanor compared with before the surgery.

Good morning guys.

Tom, Hannah looks great and I am so glad to hear that she is feeling better.

I am waiting on a window order so today my older boy and I are playing hooky. We are going up to the Housatonic River in Derby to go Striper fishing. They are catching them like crazy between 20" - 40".

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Morning

She looks great Tom. Happy to see them home.

Today is my wife day off and she is headed to Norwalk, CT for the Dooney & Bourke tent sale for handbags. She has to get a handbag that goes with her new camper. I've been teasing her.

I've charged the battery for the old trailer to get it up to Vermont. So I'm set and ready for the call to go up there.

Just can't believe the weather. Nature has a way of balancing things out and I wonder just what she has in store for us later this winter.

Wow. The Fog this morning was absolute pea soup!
Not sure about the logic some drivers use - let's still drive 75 when visibility is < 1/10th of a mile.

Good morning everyone.

It's been quite warm out here as well. We were in the 40's most of the day yesterday and only down to 35 now. Last winter was quite mild starting out, and that changed on January 24th.

Evening guys, John, happy birthday to the Ms'.

I got the alternator out of my sister's escape, had one stud, one nut and two bolts left. Went to advance auto and got a remanned one, also, advance has a 20% off coupon over $50 purchase if you guys need to buy some parts, worked well for me today!

Here's some pictures, can you spot the alternator?

how about now?

Look at all this crap! Exhaust, sway bar link, tie rod end, caliper, rotor, splash guard, cv shaft, all removed, knuckle disconnected from the strut, sub frame unbolted and dropped.

I'll probably start putting it back together tomorrow.

Morning

Just get tired reading what Kyle is doing. That's quite a project. I don't know what was thinking. Good luck and hope it get done by weekend end.

Tom how's Hannah doing today?

Got to get the dogs brushed out today. Almost as much work as Kyle's doing.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. Still beautiful out there.

Looking at Kyle's fiasco, It made think about changing my
alternator in the Benny's parking lot. 1966 Barracuda.
$15.00 two bolts and a wire connection!

Good morning everyone!

She seems to be doing well John! Time will tell though, there's still some concern that she could have problems with blood clotting in her ventricles clogging the valve in her shunt. She has an MRI scheduled in a couple weeks to make sure everything is working right.

The interesting thing is that most modern cars are far easier to work on than that Escape. The shop manual for my wife's '12 Odyssey shows that to be a 1.2-hour job. The hardest one I've ever done was a 2000 Contour V6, and that took half a day. NOTHING on what Kyle went through!
