F-Series Radiators (std. and super cooling)

I notice my truck has the single-core aluminum/plastic radiator, and it has begun leaking at the crimp. In searching for replacement, I see a double-core model available. Who out there has one of these rads from the factory? I would like the double-core if it will fit, for the extra $20 it costs. Didn't the trucks with towing and HD cooling options come with this? Mine is set up with the frame mounted hitch and auxiliary trans cooler, yet has the single core rad.

Ask the parts house if they specify different hoses based on the radiator. If not (both radiator types use the same hose), chances are that the outside dimensions are the same, and the heavier duty (2 core) will be a direct bolt in. I did this on my '85 Bronco. The heavier duty radiator was actually cheaper (I guess that, due to customer demand, they must have produced and sold far more of the HD rads, lowering unit cost...), and was a direct bolt-in, fan shroud, hoses, and all.

Try radiator.com . They have some great prices & free shipping , most of the time if you order before 3pm I think you can have the radiator the next day . They all most all of the OEM radiators & can tell you what will fit in your truck .

restorit - Looking at the measurements and pictures, I would bet money the heavy duty rad drops right in. The dimensions are synonymous, with the double-core's core being 1/8" wider. The hose positions match.
Paul - I've browsed them as well as some other online parts houses. radiator.com wants $135 for the single core direct replacement. However, discountradiators.com wants $112 for the same and a mere $135 for the double core (to your doorstep). These prices are for the same brand name (Visteon or Go-Dan). I've called and verified. Very friendly people at the latter also. I recommend them.

What sort of difference did the double-core make on your Bronco, restorit?

I can't give you hard figures, as I only have the factory guage, but the truck has never overheated, and never reads past the "R" in "NORMAL". This is with the 195 degree thermostat and a stock clutch-type fan. I've been very happy with the switch, especially for the neglible difference in price.
