Do I Have A 460??

Well I bought this engine sight unseen for $100, going on the seller's word that it was a 460 out of a 1996 one ton truck. Upon inspection, I'm not so sue what I have. Hopefully you guys can help me identify it?

Driver side casting, cylinder head

Passenger side, engine block casting

Valve cover? Four bolts? I thought it had seven?

On the decal visible in the first pic it's clearly labeled as a 7.5l, and if it does have a fuel injection system on it then it's definitely an '88 or later engine.

Well look at that, I totally missed the 7.5L on the white label. I was able to find info on the casting numbers that verified the information I was given. Thanks all.

the only thing is those heads are E7TEs which are only on 87-92 trucks. In 93 they got F3TE heads.

I've not been able to find any information regarding when the F3TE heads were introduced.

In any event, the engine was either swapped in to the '96, or he didn't realize the truck was older than a '96 when he bought the engine out of it.

Ah well. Such is life. The build continues!

The valve cover says it's a 1990 motor

Damn, I keep missing things in my own pictures.

Does that make it a true 1990 motor? Or was 1990 the last time prior to this engine's construction that it received a major upgrade?

Are there any other significant markings to be found on the engine to corroborate that date?

That usually means the year of the motor. The Feds usual change the emission rules every year.

Makes sense. Does the E7TE casting number on the head corroborate the build date? I've been unable to find a source of thorough information regarding the casting numbers and dates on these engines.

No that's the engineering casting number that correlates to the head being design for introduction in 1987

The 1990 emissions calibration code tells it was built for the 1990 model year.
It could have been assembled it late 1989.
None of this really matters.
It is a '88-'92 engine.
