Thanks for the link...Chris Travers is a member of Pickups Limited of Orange County. I know that truck and was aware that he was slowly reworking it but I didn't know the extent of the repairs he was doing. Always a pleasure to watch how an accomplished metal man works his magic!

I'm curious what you guys would estimate the shop would charge for that much work? I'm thinking it must be between $2k - $3k?

I can contact Chris and find out...my thought is that this work was subsidized by Classic Trucks magazine, Eastwood, and perhaps Chopit himself. I have long thought that there should be enough demand in the 56 F100 community to warrant the development/production of either a complete replacement roof or at least the repair panels like were made in this article. Every time I ran into Pat Ford (Dennis Carpenter rep) I pressed him to keep the issue alive...the last time I spoke with Pat he told me that DC was producing a complete 56 cab and, when in production, a separate roof panel should be available at that time. Still waiting...

I'd be mostly interested in what one of us would have to pay for the repair. I'd assume a better cab would be close to the cost. That shop has undoubtedly done the job before, so they could do it faster and better than the typical local shop, but I have to think it still involved 30+ hours.

Im always amazed at what can be accomplished by a few very talented folk. We are lucky enough to have a few of those folks right here on FTE. Thanks for the link Smitty.

I have heard back from Chris...the goal of the job was to have all work "metal finished"...no filler. The cost of all the work done in the article along with filling the gas filler hole was in the neighborhood of $6K. His comment was, "it could have been done cheaper but not better". I find it hard to argue with that...

Thanks Charlie. I agree with his assessment, and I agree with you that Dennis C. is missing a potentially good market for a replacement roof, with that kind of price as an alternative. And that price didn't include repaint?!

I don't know what his plan is for paint. He did say that the drip rail they used/bought took a bit of work to get it right. I would hate to have to provide a metal component to such a talented fabricator and have it stand up to the custom work he does.
