56' racecar themed F-100

Figured I would start a thread I could post progress pictures to. Then people could follow along etc.

I probably have a whole 20-30 hours into it so far. Hard to find time with a busy family.

My family as been around racing as long as I remember and I decided to take time off racing. I can't completely walk away from racing, so why not build a race themed truck??

I've never been one to do something original. Like to throw my own twist on things. Whether it be racecar bodies or street cars.

Here are a few pictures with what I have done so far.

Any suggestions always appreciated.

Looks like this will be an interesting build to follow. Seems the cowl there had seen better days. Looks like your set up for a rotisserie, I just put mine on some 2x4's and casters. That way I can roll it on it's back if I need to. Kinda cramped in my shop. Keep up the good work and the pic's coming.

When you said race car I thought about a buddy's truck...Bill Elliott built it on one of his NASCAR chassis'...

By a race car themed truck, do you mean a 50 era push truck or a truck with decals.... please explain.

Roll bars. Custom gauges (racecar style gauges). Racing seats. Shifter for standard tranny will be like most standard racecars. I'll have more pictures one day.

The outside of the truck is going to be a 56 with some minor customness. The interior is race car themed.

Looks like you have a good start on it. I like your floor pan. Did you see the NoLimit F100 silver bullet? It might give you some ideas...Silver Bullet - Big 10

See that wasn't so bad...and it looks as good as any "store bought" patch panel.

Thanks. Just time consuming. I don't have hours on end to work on it so hard to get anything done. Plus I'm picky so its gotta look decent.

If the wait time wasn't 30-90 days, I'd still buy them. Lol.

Great fab skills. The lower corners sections seem to be a pain. I remounted the doors when I did my to check the lines with the door edge. Keep the pictures coming, I look forward to seeing how the race car theme will look.

Thanks. Keep in mind, I have never done anything like this before. So if anyone has any pointers, throw them at me. Or tips to make things last after paint.

I tacked the insides and wasnt going to fully fill the outside seems. Maybe just tack a few spots and grind back down. Is that wrong or okay to do?
