19 Days out of Warranty Rust Holes !!!!!

Yep, 19 days past my 5 year rust perforation. Ford said "sorry" The truck is a 2011 F350

Attn: Those of you that live in the "rustbelt", Be sure to REALLY look over your truck before the 5 year Warranty is over!!!

I took the box off to address the rusty 5th wheel undermount hitch. ?This is when I discovered just how rusty the bed was. Too bad I was 19 days too late.

Just venting I guess...

Wow, I'd be frustrated too! I don't usually see people with holes in the floor like that, perhaps the fifth wheel prep makes the problem worse.

Hi firebus,

I'll dig a bit deeper into this and see if there are any options to help. How many miles are on your truck?

That's horrible and the exact reason my truck gets doused in Fluid Film each year and stored in the garage for the winter. Extend the inevitable.

I caught some bubbles on the rear fenders of the 06 I had and they ended up replacing the bedsides as it was still under warranty. Traded the truck not to long after as the doors and other pinch seams were showing real rot along with a host of other rust related issues.

I know not everyone can park a truck but that's likely the only way out of the rust. Here's hoping you get a little help.

Hi Crystal,

Well as I understand it, the 5 year is unlimited mileage. However it has high miles. 190k

I called customer relations? Anyway, seems as though the call center is in India, and there was a bit of a communication issue on my end.

Also, I am in Canada. This is probably an issue as well?

Thanks

I'll bet the warranty is worded "outer body" rust thru, which wouldn't cover yours. Even if it happened within time limits.

I spray motor oil inside & out on my drivers every year to keep rust away. It works well, & the price is right. A little messy though.

I have a 1984 f-150 that has less rust on it than my 2003 F-250. And the '84 has been in the rust belt it's whole life. It's pretty sad that these newer trucks seem to rust worse and faster than the older ones. So much for the new(er) fangled e-coat, and 'better' technology that goes into production vehicles......

I'd say that is just plain lucky and not the norm. It was normal to see the 80's trucks rusted out around here but I have not seen a superduty with fenders rotted right out here. We also do not get rust like the op's in this area of the country.

I replaced the bed supports on a SD bed this summer and it had some rust through where the bed support flanges are. It is pretty common and made especially worse by the way Ford sandwiches the extra sheetmetal that the bolt holes on the bed supports. This just traps dirt and moisture thus causing rust through.

You are unlikely to get anywhere with Ford, they know this happens and their goal is to just get it past warranty so they don't have to pay for it. Get the Dorman bed support kit and replace the supports. The kit comes with new bed bolts and captured nuts. If your front bed support is rusted out you will have to get one fabbed out of sheetmetal or fab it yourself.(what I had to do) Coat everything with several coats of rust bullet. Need any info on the process and tools involved, shoot me a PM.

I just bought a 05 out of wisconsin. The cab looks solid but the bed.... hoping to do a little prevention this spring on the cab. Not sure what im going to do with the bed since the truck was cheap and had a boatload of miles. The inside of the bed looks rock solid though

Well I wasn't about to put my old box back on.... So I already replaced it. New take off boxes can be had pretty cheap.. Especially in Texas Lubbockguy79

I am lucky enough to have a truck that is Oxford white, or "construction white" as I call it. lol. I don't need to spend more money on paint. I will also probably pick up a new cab for its doors, hood and fenders (if I can find some aftermarket flares that cover up the holes in the F550 fenders)
