400m swap to 460/zf5 help

Just my thoughts, but I wouldn't think it'd be too hard putting the 460 in since I think they were available in '79. Might need different mounts, radiator, etc, but shouldn't be too bad.
The ZF5 will attach to the 460 like it was made to (since it was). Obviously you'll need a ZF5 from a big block to get the bellhousing to match.
I think you'll need a newer transfer case. I've heard that all of the alloy 'cases interchange, and all of the iron ones will, but you can't easily swap an iron 'case (like I think your '79 has) onto a trans that started with an alloy 'case. I'm not sure about that though. And if you do get a new 'case you might want to either get an earlier one, or else one from a Bronco. At some point the pickups switched to using a slip yoke on the rear of the transfer case. You might prefer staying with a fixed yoke.
The biggest issue might be the engine management. If you go with a newer, fuel injected 460 you'll need an ECM and wiring harness for it. Simpler if you go with an older, carbed 460.
