As of right now it seems it was just the gpr and the hpop draining from over cranking, although I feel like it shouldn't drain as it's all gear driven off the motor? Or is it because more hpo is demanded when cranking than the lpop can keep up with?

Yes, the HPO sytem will use more oil than the LPOP can provide at the low speed of cranking.
