Starter choice for '88 F350 460
Sooo....my truck has been a bear to start once it's warm. After replacing the battery, solenoid, wires, starter and checking the timing..I'm pretty sure the reman starter I got at AutoZone is a dud.
My question is this...should I go with a new Duralast or straight to a hi-torque and/or mini? If I go the mini route I've been looking at some from Summit and I'm wondering which ones will easily fit my 1988 F350 7.5L 460? Thoughts? Opinions? THANKS!!!!

You seem comfortable with simple wiring.
I would suggest the PMGR starter from a later model 460.
Advantages:
They are smaller.
They have their own solenoid, so take the load of the fender mounted relay.
Gear reduction seems to spin my engine over faster.
Replacement available anywhere (unlike something like a Tilton)
You will need to run a new 12Ga. trigger wire from the fender relay to the starter solenoid.
You then move the starter cable to the 'hot' side of the fender relay.

Don't go to autozone for parts. That said, I had a wiring problem that caused low cranking power. I ran a ground wire direct from the frame screw to the starter that fixed most of my problems for awhile. Come to find out I should have wired the battery ground to the block, block to the starter and ran a pigtail to the frame. The previous own had done his usual wiring shortcuts creating these problems.
Toss a jumper cable from the battery ground to the starter and see if it fixes the problem.
