P1670, 0381, low oil pressure, no start

I had new glow plugs installed 3 weeks ago. Ran fine since. Today, first cold day. No start, oil pressure gauge does not move off zero, interceptor reads ICP 126. Oil level is good. WTS light does come on. Checked fuse 19 as I saw on another thread, it is good.

P1670 and 0381. My ford software is down, trying to reinstall. As soon as it is reinstalled, I can go thru the step process but has anyone seen this before?

Couple different issues here.

P1670 normally indicates an issue with the PCM to IDM communication. However, I have seen perfectly fine running trucks through this code. Some say it can be caused by the CPS as well.

P0381 indicates a glow plug circuit problem. Since you threw this code I am assuming you either have an Early 2000 Excursion, or and 1999 California model truck. Am I right? If so, confirm you have the shunt installed on the glow plug relay.

ICP of only 126psi is not good. I would say a possible IPR issue or injector o-ring problem. Need 500psi ICP for injectors to fire.

I don't see a sig for you.

Is your 2002 truck a California model? This means it has a Glow Plug Control Module instead of relay.

Okay, then the only thing that can cause your P0381 code is a problem with the glow plug light circuit on the instrument cluster.

I cleared the codes and those codes did not come back. However, ICP is still reading 15 psi. I unplugged the ICP sensor and the ICP reading on scan gauge said 65000 something. It did not start. The ICP sensor is definitely leaking oil into the valley.

Batteries are at 11.2 however it is acting like the batteries are weak and I hear a clicking in the fuse panel.

Thanks for all your help!

11.2 volts is low, if that isn't while cranking. A P1670 can be set when cranking with low batteries. That doesn't explain the ICP reading, though. If the sensor is leaking as badly as you say, it should be replaced. The truck should still start with it disconnected as long as it has adequate ICP, however. The root of the no start problem may well end up being a bad IPR or HPOP.

I can see 11.2 volts when the key is first turned (GP active). It would be good to know what the volts are with GP on/off and while cranking.

The oil pressure gauge might not come up at cranking RPMs - this is likely a straight-up ICP issue. While under the covers, did you check the injector bolt torque?

Thanks! ICP is on the way from RiffRaff. This also gave me an excuse to finally buy the AE scanner!
