Significant Havoline Flash Point Improvement

BIG improvement in regular Havoline SN 5w-30 flash point according to the May 2015 PDS here. https://cglapps.chevron.com/msdspds/...NITED%20STATES
The flash point has gone up/improved from 392F, to 446F, but cold crank viscosity has increased also, its up to 6000cp/-30c now.
Since the flash point is improved so much, I'm going to try it again in the Wifes Neon, which had begun to consume the then new 392F flash point/15.5% NOACK SN recipe of Havoline back in 2011. So after 3 oci of Havoline 1/2-1 qt consumption over its 6 month oci, I switched the Neon over to the better 443 deg flash point /lower 10.8% NOACK % evaporation Valvolene Maxlife Semi-syn High Mileage 5W-30 & that cut consumption by 50-75%. The Neon won't consume any of the Maxlife for the first 2.5-3 months, then it'll begin to use a little weekly until the end of its 6 month oci consuming about 1/4-1/3 qt over about 5K miles of short trip around town driving in 6 months.
Anyway, any of you using SN/GF-5 recipe lubes, keep a close check on the oil level, as most brands recipes of SN/GF-5 NOACK % evaporation went Up, so consumption is more likely in high rev, hot running engines, as I found out when 3 family vehicles that had never consumed oil between 6 month changes, suddenly began to consume when the higher NOACK % evaporation/lower flash point Havoline SN/GF-5 recipe went in back in 2011.
We'll see how this improved/higher flash point base oil does.
Think I'll ask Chevron for the NOACK % evaporation figure on this new recipe, for some reason they don't include it in their PDS like Valvolene does.

Havoline 5W-20 PQIA Updated VOA

PQIA has just put up a retest of Havoline SN/GF-5 in 5W-20 viscosity & Moly is back Big time!!!! Chevron Havoline SAE 5W-20 API SN/ILSAC GF-5

I'm running (about 3 weeks now) their Greately improved flash point 5W-30 recipe in the Wife's 2000 Dodge Neon OHC engine & its stopped the intermittent cold start lifter rattle it had developed early this year on the 5W-30 Valvolene Semi/Syn MaxLife/Red bottle.

SO, any of you with suspected NOACK/boil off/consumption problems in hot running engines, or with noisy engines, maybe consider trying Havoline again, as they seem to have finally awakened & improved their product after the lower NOACK/lower falsh point slide into SN/GF-5 back in 2011.

They still haven't answered my NOACK/% evaporation question on the May 2015 updated PDS showing improved flash point on the 5W-30 recipe, but I'll bet Moly is back in it too???!!!!
Maybe if I tickle them again but this time with a link to PQIA's new VOA 5W-20 NOACK data, they'll be more forth coming. We'll see.

BUMP:
The 11/19/15 PDS here, https://cglapps.chevron.com/msdspds/...&docFormat=PDF, says that Havoline 5W-20 & 5W-30 are Synthetic Blend recipes. If that isn't a typo in both places, this is the best bang for a synthetic blend buck around my area, if we come by it at Wallyworld for $11.77/5qt jug!!!!

This new improved/446 deg flashpoint, for the 5W-30 recipe has cut the Neon consumption by 2/3 during this past 6mos/winter oci!!!!
Interestingly it's consumption has slowly gotten better during this oci, hasn't used any in the past 6 weeks.

It's time for another change, as this vehicle is severely short tripped by the wife, so it gets changed twice yearly/every 6 months, no matter the mileage.
Another change of this greatly improved flash point Havoline 5W-30 is going in, so I'll see how it does in our Hot summer time short tripping.

Interesting that the Nov 2015 PDS also says that the 5W-20 is now a Semi Syn recipe too & its Flashpoint is also greatly improved, as it's now at 439 F & PQIA lists its NOACK % evaporation at 13.2%, in it's Dec 2015 tests!!! All this performance for just $11.77/5qt jug = $2.35qt, now that's a Danged good bang for our crankcase lube bucks!!!

What.....is that the thump, thump, thump of FTE folks feet I hear, hot footing it over to Wallyworld to avail themselves of their Summer oci!!!! lol

Still no reply on my Lube Tech Havoline 5W-30 NOACK query, but with the Greatly improved/higher flash point of 446 F, surely the NOACK for the 5W-30 recipe is also better???? I'm still aggravating them for an online answer, maybe call the "Tech Line" & see if I can get a human to talk to, maybe we can get an answer that way!!!!????
