Truck build, frame off, Crewcab, 4WD, DRW, 12v and ZF-5
I've been collecting trucks for a while now and have taken the first steps to start my build. I am stripping a 1992 SRW 4WD F-350 w/ turbo'ed IDI. I have 1993 2WD DRW that I am pulling the axle from and various tanks, panels, etc that are better than the 4WD truck. 12v P7100 Cummins has 170k and will get new gaskets etc. I may go ahead and do inj/turbo/plate, etc while it is on a stand.
First stage is going to be having the Dana 60 and DRW Sterling completely rebuild by a local shop that specializes in differentials. New springs, brakes, steering, suspension. Everything. New shower heads in the tanks, whole nine yards.
Stage 2 will be working on the Cummins, buying adapter parts and getting it set into the frame as a rolling chassis.
Stage 3 will be complete paint and body work and the nicest interior parts I can get my hands on.
Before anyone starts hating on me for the Cummins conversion, I like the IDI and have driven a N/A 7.3 daily for the last 3 years w/o any problems. Great engines, the Cummins is just easier to get power out of and has a slight edge on long term reliability.
I'll try to update as I can.

have no fear.there is and always will be more than enough idi trucks to go around for those who want them in our lifetime.
odds are high his engine will drop back into another idi truck to keep an older one going too.just because he wont be running her anymore, doesn't mean no one will.

To the OP I look forward to the rest of the build and am only slightly disappointed that it's getting a cummins.

You must have an ls5. I have nothing against the engine, other than exhaust notes, I prefer seeing cummins over Japanese duramaxes. It's just similar to a Chevy small block in that everyone has one, and they all are running at least 400 hp.

I don't have any photos of the frame but the rear axles have been swapped, driveline removed, and it is ready to make the move to my garage. Pulled the Dodge in and pulled the engine from it and have it waiting for a clean up/tune up.
I have the IDI listed for sale here and on craigslist. If it doesn't sell I'll try parting it out. If not I have a '93 IDI I daily drive so parts never hurt. I may put the turbo on it eventually, who knows.
