My batteries are a year, to a year and a half old. They stay fully charged if I'm not cracking on it. It does have an oversize alternator on it. If CPS is bad what dose that do? I only have a Digital Tester. Could you check GP with that also?

Yes, you can OHM them out. I forget what the values are. I am sure Bill or someone else will chime in with the numbers.

I don't know if this helps, when I was running and driving down the road I would get a little miss fire or a small jerk. Could that be from the camshaft position sensor?

Yes. That is a tell tale sign of a CPS going bad. Usually when they go bad to where the truck won't start though, you won't get any smoke.

Forget about the warranty. Get a CPS from the Ford or International dealer only. Aftermarket CPS have a bad reputation, and a lifetime warranty doesn't mean much when you're stuck on the side of the road.

Buy one from Ford or IH only. Do not buy a parts store CPS. They have been known to be bad right out of the box.

ford has to order one for 80 bucks and won't be here for a week. I'm waiting for that, So I'm picking one up for 20 because this is my only vehicle and I need it going asap.

^^^^^ +1; $80 is OUCH! I think we paid $30-ish apiece for them at the IH dealer here.

Check the various Ford dealers that sell online (AutoNation, Sunrise Ford, PartsGuyEd, etc.); should be a lot cheaper, delivered to your door, and they're sponsors of the various truck forum sites.

Are you still getting the white smoke while cranking?
