Where that switch is mounted isn't that strong---its part of the cast metal body of the entire steering column. Any sort of controls might put undue stress on it, not sure what damage or other issues it might cause.

Agreed that it's not going to be a proper location for mounting hardware, even if that item could be located. Today I managed to crawl in close enough from my wheelchair and got some good pictures that I can study to come up with a suitable mount.

If you can wait a few days I'll be buying a '94 E-150 that has hand controls installed. I can take some pictures to hopefully help you. I was almost ready to order a set of Monarch 1A hand controls from ebay until I discovered that the state of Va requires a driving school to obtain the endorsement needed for your license and they write the prescription for the hardware to be installed. The area shop that installs will only do so with new equipment. Its a damn racket, everyone wants into your wallet! They gave me the same "liability" excuse. I guess you can be trusted to due your own brake jobs but not so much to sidestep someone missing his part of the action.

Hi Jeffrey,

I actually have a 93 E150 that has Monarch 1A's installed in it. I've never removed the dash cover because that van has remote start, alarm and a system to switch over the batteries. Even with the cover removed I doubt you'd be able to see the mounts. It's a real rats nest under there and I'm afraid to have anyone tinkering with it. I'm not sure but it seems that there's a difference in the columns from earlier to later. And I plan on installing MPD controls so the mounting is different. But if you can get some pics of what's behind the dash, that would be helpful. I'm not in any big hurry, just another project, and I have lots!

Agreed, when it comes to disability, wheelchairs, adaptations, etc., it's all about the money.
