My dad has a 1993 F-150 4X4, reg cab, long bed truck with a 5.0L, AOD and 3.55 gears. He is thinking about towing my truck on a trailer to my new place when I get back from Korea. Together the truck and trailer are going to weigh about 5,000lbs. I would hate to see him burn up the tranny. What is the max towing capacity for this truck? Thanks

 

Should be no problem. Are you sure it is an AOD and not an E4OD? My '94 has the latter.

GCWR = 10,000
Unladen weight = 4425
driver and passenger = 300?
30 gallons gas = 90
max trailer weight = 5185
Assuming no load in bed of truck

The GCWR is my low-end guess. I'll check the manual at lunch.

Update from the owners manual:

GCWR = 11,500
The 10,000 lb figure is for the 4.9L engine.

7000 is the listed maximum trailer weight.

Corrected fuel weight:

30 X 6 = 180

BTW, the unladen weight is from the California registration card. This is based on what Ford tells them when the vehicle is delivered new. Our fees are partly based on that number. Those in other states probably do not have this information.

Thanks for the info.
He just had it rebuilt and it is an AOD or an EAOD. It only cost $900 to remove it rebuild it and throw it back in. The E40D usually cost twice that. I can't remeber if it has the OD button or not.

 

My E4OD cost me exactly double, $1800!
