One benefit have Aluminum intake is your back won't hurt as much installing one. Most guy say yes & many say no increase. But I'd say most guys put in a cam and do other things to pep up the Hp. Electric fans, Hotter Ign. system. add headers & big 2.5 pipes.

Now try and figure out did it really give them any thing better

They drive it faster then before then say Oh yea runs much faster.g

1/3 the weight is a big deal when you have to do a valve job or cam change and they do add a few more HP. Cost wise it's your call. You do have to buy another carburetor also.

If your lucky you might find one at a swap meet or CL for decent price, but then again you may just be buying someone else's junk. The intake I bought on Ebay had been welded before, I discovered this after I got it cleaned up and ready to paint.........

Yeah that's the down side of buying a used intake.
Ask seller if any Stripped threads or broken studs, Weld Repairs or has it been milled down for milled heads.

I replace all threaded holes with studs in a aluminum intakes.
Yes even the dizzy hold down bolt with a stud.

My 02 cents.

Glad I ran across this thread, some good info posted by HIO.

I am actually in the middle of this now, have it all apart and cleaned, weather is hit and miss though. Not sure why the back of intake suddenly up and sprang an oil leak.

Anyone use these gaskets before Fel-Pro Performance Intake Manifold Gasket Sets 1247S3 - Free Shipping on Orders Over $99 at Summit Racing? They don't have the little hooks on the bottom though to hook into the head gaskets, so will need to use a little Gasgacinch to keep them in place.

I have a set I think I will try, it also blocks the heat crossover ports that I don't think I need here in CA.

I had about 300 miles on those fel pro and had to pull the intake, Ha and guess what those block off exh. cross over where burned out already.

I like the Edelbrock way better the fel pros intake pin seal gaskets.
And since Edelbrock makes the intake why not go with them and, I like them better.
So they make sure the intakes seal.

I had to many fel pro fail over the yrs and now, I choose to use Edelbrock now.

They burned right through the metal core of these gaskets?
These are metal core, which I thought would do well if they are going to cover up the heat crossover ports. They got good reviews, but who knows.
I don't have an issue using the Edelbrock, but I have these on hand.
I can certainly pick some Edelbrocks up from Summit if the Fel-Pro has issues, I don't want to pull this apart again for years, PITA.

Other than saving weight, the benefits over a stock cast iron 4 barrel are marginal on a stock engine. Lots of discussion over the years on which is best and some think the better of the stock iron offerings (marked "S" or "P", can't remember) is as good as the after market dual planes.
