1966 f250 4x4 brakes

New here. Just got a 66 and looked at the brakes... omg, parts are missing and can't find a pic to see what should be there. Adjusters are non existent, springs gone etc. Fronts are 8 bolt knuckle. Front and Rear parking cables need replaced and no listings for new one's anywhere. Can anyone help?

Welcome to FTE

You'll get good advice here, and maybe some parts diagrams even. But, with a "new" old truck you will need a '66 Ford Truck Shop Manual, maybe an early 60s Motors Manual, and a Ford parts catalog. Some of the stuff is available online, but can be taken down or unavailable anytime.

And a grease gun, of course. We need to see some pics of your truck, too by the way! Thanks for signing up and taking the pledge.

Thanks for the pic's and the advice. I got this truck in purty bad shape. Following behind another mechanic (butcher) I'm slowly getting it back together.
I see from the pic's, it doesn't show any spreader bars. The previous guy did the brakes and couldn't get the right rear drum off. I did and it has a spreader bar. ???

Are you sure this is a 1966 F250 4WD? What is the VIN?

OOPS. Who's the number dummy now? Me. So it's an F100 4X4, VIN F10YR802133. Brake cables need replaced and I can't find them. Pic's of the brakes would be very helpful to see what's missing. Also the previous guy took the locker hubs apart and lost parts. Got the engine in yesterday after a rebuild and it is sweet. Got the go part done, stop is next. I have ordered a Motors truck manual to cover 66 per your suggestion.
You guys are awesome! Thank you for your help. I will send pics after my vacation, now till Dec 3. Going to Las Vegas for T-Day. (home town). Happy Gobbling.

Happy Gobbling.

-------------------------------------------------------

F10 = F100-2 x 4

Y = 352 2v

R = San Jose, CA assembly plant

802133 = Assembled January 1966 - 1966 Model year

If you see a driving front end under it then it sounds like that was added by a previous owner - assuming that VIN is the matching VIN for this truck.

What brakes to use on a converted truck can take a bit more research to see if....

A = Is the rear end stock and has it been lifted (requiring longer brake hoses and possibly cables)

and

B = What is the front end that was added

If you give the complete information from the Warranty plate we can at least tell you how it left the assembly line - as much info as it can give anyway. But, it won't say what has been done to the truck since then.

F10 is an F100 2WD, if an F100 4WD, the VIN Series code would be F11.

So what the hell are you actually working on? F100's have 5 lug wheels, F250's have 8.

Where are you getting this VIN from, off the Warranty Plate or from the registration/title?

Be aware that the Warranty Plate is located on the left door face below the latch beginning in 1963, the doors are the same 1961/66 and people replaced damaged left doors with used doors.

When this occurred, 99.9% of the time, people failed to install the original Warranty Plates on the replaced doors.

Compare the VIN on the registration/title to the VIN on the Warranty Plate to see if they match.

You're getting some excellent advice from people who know Iz. I'll add one more resource: find the guy who has the same or very similar truck and look at it. I bet that guy would love to help you.

brake parts cunundrum

I'm back from Vegas vacation...ouch. OK, I don't think the door plate with the vin is for this truck. The front axle #s are C6TA-BB 2776-6 4.55. It has 8 lugs and those ball type knuckles. No tag on the rear axle, also 8 lug. 8 foot bed. Trans #s are C5TA 7004 AT F 6, 7 18 66 435. Dana Xfer case #s are Serial 789985 B/M 300205-6 Model 24. Brake shoes are 12 1/8 X 2 inches.
The parts I need are all three parking brake cables and the left rear brake strut. The right one's # is Bendix 311864-R. The rear cables are the same length at about 65" X 40". The front is 90" X 78".
As soon as I get help posting pic's, I will. It's kinda rough but I like it.
Thank You for any help, past, present and future.

12 1/8" x 2" front/rear drum brakes will be found on all 1955/65 F250 2WD's and 1966/72 F250 2WD's with GVWR's of less than 7,500 lbs. And 1959/75 F250 4WD's.

C5TA-7004-AT = New Process 435: 1965 F100/250 4WD I-6 & V8 from serial number 708,001 ditto 1966 F100/250 4WD

Here's a picture that is typical of 1966 F250 4x4 front (top drawing) and rear (lower drawing) brakes. There is no brake strut on this particular setup. Can you see the part in this drawing of what you are referring to? NumberDummy posted a bit bigger image in his post above that might prove easier to see.
