1991 f150 feels like it has no ***** past 2nd gear

I just bought a 91 f150 5.0 5 speed the guy I bought it off of said it had a cam put in it has headers and full dual exhaust the first two gears it really has some go but 3-5 not so mutch it really feels gutless at that point I can floor it and it will slowly gain speed in 3-5 but feels like a race car in 1-2 it has a hard time going up hills in 3-5. Almost have to keep the pedal to the floor to maintain speed in 3-5 is something wrong with my transmission or is that how it's geard

Try and check the rear axle gearing there is a sticker in the door jam and a metal tag on the axle

Check for codes, and check timing it may not be right if it had the cam pulled

Oh I forgot it has 33s on it to but I would not think that would effect it this much they are bigger tires but they are not that big

Think of it this way 33s are 10-15% taller than stock so you have 10-15% less power if you have 3.08 gears you don't have much to begin with and with those tires you have even less

You need to find the specifications on the cam. Speed Density powertrain control is very unforgiving when it comes to the bumpstick.

I will check and see if I can't find out what my gears are tomarow Was 3.08 the most common gears would a set 3.73 gears help my issue out much and how would 3.73 gears do for towing and since its a 4x4 would I have to change the front gears to

Being that it has 33's on it it more than likely needs some better gears in the rear, tell us what you have in it now, you should be able to find out via an axle code on the door-jam sticker. Based on what you are saying if it has stock gears, it has 3.08's and that gearing with stock tires alone sucks.

3.55 was very common but there are those that came hobbled with the 3.08 gears. I think there was a 3.31 available too.

Before going too far circle back on that cam you mentioned.

I asked the guy I bought it off of he said it already had the cam when he got it and he dose not know the specs on it so that means I'll probably have to take the engine appart to find out what it is and if I'm going to do that might as well build the thing up a bit but won't have funds for building an engine for this until next summer I have to finish the lt1 in my camaro first

So I looked at my axle code its 19 then I looked it up looks like I got 3.55 gears so should I go with 3.73 or 4.10 gears. I'll check the timing and air filter tomarow and codes tomarow

1991 f150 feels like it has no ***** past 2nd gear

I went from 3.55 to 4.10 and honestly it didn't make that much of a difference in acceleration. If I didn't drive on the highway I could've went with 4.56 but my commute is mostly highway and my cruise rpm at 65 is still a little high in od
