Brake Drum Removal - D60 Rear

Its time for new drums on my '78 F250. Hubs and drums are off and I cannot see a good way to remove the drums from the hubs. The FSM says remove any fasteners and separate them. There are no fasteners to remove.

Is this a press or pound deal? What are the chances I can get the 35 YO drums off without damaging the hub? Tricks and suggestions welcome.

Did you remove the wheel studs? Usually once you knock those out it comes apart pretty easy.

OK studs first. Is it OK to put a junk nut on them and pound them out or is press better? Also, any possibility to re-use or best just plan on new studs?

A press is best but I have simply put the lug nuts on the lugs and knocked them out with a hammer, usually they are reusable just be sure the nut is even with the lug.
Not the best method but it works when it's all you have

Agree... doesnt hurt studs
Saves thumbs....

The lug nut method deforms the nut and thread ..even if you cannot see it...... no mistakes when it comes to safety.. lugs and lug nuts are really important ..don't you think?

I've got a press and will use it to get the studs out tomorrow. Replacement drums/shoes/ect. on the way from NAPA and in tomorrow also. I'll post how it turns out.
