Just going through old stuff to figure out my truck. I just purchased a 1965 Mercury with almost the exact same id plate as yours except it a 4 wd. Mine has the 1606 trim code also but mine appears to be a custom cab, with the chrome trim around the windshield, two tone dash and custom cab emblems on the side, grill has been changed so can't really go off of that. Seems odd we have the same code yet yours is not a custom cab.
"1606: 16 is the bolster, 06 is the backrest. I have parts catalog colored pictures of original FoMoCo upholstery swatches. This is a medium shade of green with what appears to be grey stripes running thru it"
I took that to mean that the trim code really just showed what kind of seat style/fabric the truck originally had. Generally speaking, I do believe that the custom cabs had different seat fabric compared to the standard cabs. There are pics of both in my build thread somewhere.
