What happens if/when...

What happens if or when you get air in your brake lines and the air gets into your ABS pump/module? What are the symptoms? Anything other than a soft pedal? My ABS module keeps thinking one of my tires is sliding when i am driving and pulses my pedal and i am at a loss.
thanks

Are you sure it's not a bad abs sensor?

you need to bleed the brakes to get the air out.

i don't know if there is air in the system just wondering if one of the symptoms of air being in the system would trigger the abs to activate randomly

The ABS fires if it thinks one tire is significantly slower compared to the others. You may or may not have air in the system, but you do have a sensor problem.

At the moment you start to depress the brake pedal, do you feel the pedal "thump" the sole of your foot one time?

At the moment i start to depress the brake pedal it either stays hard and doesn't brake the vehicle until it lighten up.

A new symptom its having is when the brake pedal is stiff i noticed the speedo will freeze at the speed the truck is going

How many fuses does your truck have that are directly related to ABS?

ok, that sounds like a dying ABS module, not air in the pump.

While I agree with Tom, that your module might be failing, before you go any further, try the official bleed procedure instructions from Ford.

Go to the Excursion forum and click on the sticky thread "Excursion Forum Tech Folder" and scroll down to the "Suspension, Steering, Brakes, Wheels, Axles, Hubs, Transmission/Driveline" section.

In the "Brakes, Wheels, etc" subsection, click the link for bleeding your brakes and follow the directions found there to see if it helps.

You likely have a sensor or bad wire, probably at the output of the transmission. That is could jack up your speedo and ABS.

IS the ABS module also part of the ABS hydraulic module? Can you install the separately? I just had the ABS module replaced but i think they only replaced the hydraulic side because 6 months ago my pedal was "sinking" and then harden up and it was a internal hydraulic leak in the abs module.

you can not buy the module separate from ford, but you can remove the module from the pump and replace it.
i did it about 6 months ago on my 02 diesel after a headlight wire broke off the snow plow adapters and fell on the module shorting it out.

i had a spare module and pump i took out of a parts truck a few years ago.
