2012 f250 Class IV Hitch Rating?

I bought a used 2012 f250 and has factory tow package on it. I looked at the hitch and it says v-5 12,500 with weight distribution but only 6,000 without. I tow a 7-8k trailer regularly will this be a problem or am I reading hitch wrong?

You read it right.

Without a distribution set up 6K

With one 12,500.

You can't just put a receiver in the hitch and call it good without the distribution bars for over 6K.

Distribution is designed to help level and load and put some of the weight on the front end.
