Comparing 7.3 to 6.4 Fuel Tanks

Quick question: All other things being equal (Cab size, bed length, ect...), are fuel tanks and sending units from 7.3 trucks swap-able between 6.4 trucks?

I need to replace my tank in my 7.3 and wanted to expand my pool of possible replacements.

THanks in advance.

fuel tanks are also dependent on the model and wheel base....you might want to give a bit of info about your truck...

My 6.4 fuel door is the same as the 7.3. It has a plug where something for the diesel would normally be. My dealer told me what it was but I've long since forgotten.
So in this case, yes, they would seem to be interchangeable.

My truck is a 2001 F350 Crew Cab Short Bed SRW 4x4. Wheel base is 156.2 in with a 29.00 gallon tank (Ford specs). Wondering if a tank from the exact same truck with 6.4l engine would fit, and if the sending unit is the same.

Look up the tank for both trucks on a parts site and see if they are the same part numbers.

We replaced ours with a Spectra. Dirt cheap and great fit!

What was the spectra part number? You installed it in a 2001 F350 SB CC SRW with the 156" WB?

No sir, ours is a 97 CCLB. Wouldn't be the same tank. Sorry, I'm not sure if Spectra makes a tank for your model.
