School Bus and 7.3

I am eyeing up a couple of school buses and need to figure out what I can about the engines.

First is a 2001 full size bus with rear engine. Advertised as a 466-G 7.3. How does this engine compare with my e-99 engine and would it make a good parts engine?

Second is advertised as a 2004 E-450 short bus 7.3. Were they still using the 7.3 in these in 2004? I expect that if they were that the engine would be a sufficient parts engine for me.

Thanks,
Mark

You may have ended up with two buses that don't have 7.3s. The first one might be a DT466, the 2004 is, in all likelihood, a 6.0.

That's a little of what I was thinking. The DT is a straight 6 isn't it? OK, the VIN decoder shows the supposed 2004 as a 2003.

Yes, the DT466 is an I6, and it's a good one too! The numbers you posted from the (auction?) listing don't really make it clear which engine it is. The DT466 is 7.6 liters. The 2003 could be a 7.3 or a 6.0. If the 8th digit of the VIN is an F, it came with a 7.3, if it's a P, it came with a 6 liter.

It's an 'F' there, thanks for that information. Maybe I'll get lucky and having it listed wrong will net me a good deal.
