7.3 wont fire
Hey everyone I'm new here and just posted in the new member thread earlier. I was wondering if I could get some advice getting my pickup to fire up. It has been sitting for a few months on non op due to not having the money to renew the tags. It ran perfect when I parked it but a couple weeks ago I went to move it into my drive way and it started fine and idled for awhile on high idle it seemed like everything was good but as soon as high idle kicked off it bogged out and died. I got it to start again but it would not run without having my foot on the throttle. As soon as I let off it died again. Ever since then it won't even try to fire. My truck is a 92 f350 with NA 7.3. What should I try? Thanks

welcome to FTE. first thing i would do is pull the fuel filter and see if it is full, or empty.
if empty, fill it with fresh diesel, and put it back on. then put 5 gallons of fresh diesel in the tank and try to prime the fuel system.
you may have to remove and fill the fuel filter a few times to get it running.
once it is running, shut it off and pull the fuel filter again. dump the fuel out and fill it with ATF. start the engine and let idle for 30 seconds. shut it off and let it sit for 12 to 24 hours. then fire it up and give it a good run down the road.
the ATF will clean any gumming in the injector pump and injectors.

yup! auto trans fluid has very good cleaning properties. it will dissolve/loosen any gummed up fuel componants. then when you fire it uop it will get passed through the engine and get burned up.
i do it on average once a year to keep things in tip top condition. you will notice a difference after it.

Alright so I put the fresh fuel in the tank and took off the filter. The fuel in it was cloudy with red stuff in it. Kinda looks like rust but a few months ago I was having similar issues like that and it turned out to be a red hose that disintegrated in the fuel tank. Both tanks were dropped and drained and the fuel pick up tubes were fixed. Anyways I dumped out the old fuel and filled it with fresh and still no go. Maybe the ip is clogged with that red stuff?
