cruise control issues

Hello all , so after fixing the major engine issues I am now after the small stuff , today my 98 ranger 4.0 would love to have cruise control once again .

I have checked the obvious , fuses connectors etc. I know on my f250 they had an issue with the pressure sensor mounted on the brake master cylinder leaking , I did check that and not leaking yet . I can't even get the system to turn on. So my question to to the forum , is there a common issue with ranger cruise control that I am unaware of ?

OK, lets think about this some more. You say you "would love to have cruise control again", so to me that suggests it was once working. So, did it stop working after some event????

OK, use your ELM scantool running FORScan, or the like software to the viewing device of your choice & have it query the GEM module for trouble code clues & post All code Numbers.

The scan tool I have won't scan anything more than abs and srs and engine codes , it performs some tests none of which are related to the cruise, I believe by testing voltages at all connections that the cruise module under the hood is toast , it's getting power and all pulses from the steering column push buttons is making it to the module.

Since you like turning your own wrenches, consider coming by the low cost ELM scan tool discussed here, EDIT Link: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-scantool.html as a good one can be had for about $25 shipped & can save Way more than that on a trouble shoot, so is a good investment for our electronic tool box.

This helped mine

Got my cruise issue repaired,
found out that speed control cutoff switch was issue (the recall fird issue)
here is what I found
part number# Motorcraft SW6350
which says fits and works for the 1995 ford ranger 4.0 engine is "INCORRECT"
(after replacing this part three times)
part number# Motorcraft SW-6349 which says fits and works for the 1995 ford ranger is "CORRECT"
(after replacing this with CORRECT part one time)
SHOTGUN $ wasted to find this out
Cruise is working perfectly AGAIN after 2 years .......
hopes this helps someone else here searching for speed control (cruise control) issues
