I am new to the diesel world. If there are already post about this then fill free to point me there. I am looking at buying one but my budget is falling in 2008 area. I've reading up and doing my homework and have seen the 6.4's seem to be better than the 6.0. My budget is also putting the mileage up in 150's. Is it worth the purchase and what should I look for. I am needing the diesel to pull a camper I took over from my grandfather.

I would stick to a 7.3 for that kind of mileage for a diesel green horn, sure you can't do a gas or are you going to be doing some serious camping.

The camper is a 5th wheel and to heavy. My dad has a 7.3 but really can't find any 7.3s with under 200,000 around where I'm at

Welcome to FTE. This is an often asked question. Lots of different opinions on your situation. My personal opinion is to find a clean 06 or 07 6.0. There are problem free high mileage 6.4s out there, but they are the exception and not the rule. Again, one guy's opinion who has owned all 4 engines in the Super Duty.

How heavy is too heavy? A 2005-2010 V10-powered truck is rated to tow substantially more than any 7.3L-powered Super Duty was. I've had 16,000 lbs behind my old V10-powered Excursion.

If budget is a concern I wouldn't be looking at a high mile diesel truck. The 6.4L is a good engine, but not without its issues, and can set you back thousands when they break. Can you swing $8,000+ for a new fuel system if you get a tank of bad fuel?
