Is there a 4.9 folder on this site?

I bought this amazing 1991 Club Wagon XLT. Still having a hard time finding the community around these older, but not vintage vans. I live in Alameda, California, and the shops just aren't interested in helping me find the right or best parts. Either they wish I had something expensive and complicated that they can work on, or they are just stupid kids who don't know or care about keeping a great automobile on the road.

This week, I puked coolant from what I figured was just a hose. I replaced the top hose in the rain and found out it wasn't just that one, but I had to work overnight, so I dropped the car off and asked the guys at the shop to do the lower hose and check the water pump. At the same time, I also showed him the rusty, and somewhat softening heater hose that goes around back of the top radiator hose. I told him to go ahead and replace it if he could find the OEM part and to leave it alone if not. He chopped it all to hell, put it back together with the rusty metal parts and some hoses and clamps. Looks like some **** I would have done when I was 16. I had removed the air cleaner assy before I took it in, but it was right there, with he bolts in the holes. He didn't even put the filter back on.

Not going back to that shop.

Here's my question: Do we have a 4.9 specific forum here, or a few guys who are into these motors? Is there a shop or an on line store that specializes in stuff from this generation of Fords where I can get someone to answer questions? Right now, I need a set of heater hoses, but Im sure there will be other stuff later on.

Hi lutarious, welcome to FTE!

Yup, we have an inline 6-cylinder forum. I'm moving this over there.

Welcome to the forum, lutarious! My 1986 4.9L is somewhat different than your 1991, but others with knowledge of the later systems will soon come to your assistance.

I can't see the hose or imagine what it looks like, but why couldn't standard heater hose work for this application?

Most heater hoses I have on my junk are standard ones from the auto parts stores. Any bends and Kinks can be sorted out some way or another.
