barn find

Is it possible that sitting a barn for 20 years caused the crack in my flat head block? no rust in cylinders just a crack between seat and cylinder. What else should I look for? Time to search for another engine?
1949 F-1
Thanks

An unheated barn with water in the block could certainly freeze and crack it.

Is it a V8? If so, cracks near the valve seat are usually from overheating. Sometimes they don't leak enough to be noticeable on an otherwise good engine. May have been that way all along.

Yes it is a V-8
Will put it back together an keep eye open for another V-8
Toying with a swap but I gotta admit I am growing fond of the thumpity thump of the flathead.
Smokes like its rolling coal when I get on it. That's a bummer.
