Quoted from the Dealer.....

"Here is the verdict. We can fix the truck in Elmira at our Ford store. It is going to cost us a total of 980.00, there is nothing as far as profit in this deal, BUT, we will eat 480.00 of it, leaving you 500.00. We have to pay our share internally, so I do need you to get it to them.
This is truly the best that I can do. With it being not a powertrain issue that would be covered under warranty, I am not responsible for any of this on a used vehicle, but am trying to help you out the best I possibly can.

Let me know what you want to do. If you are going to go Elmira Ford I will have Doug set it up for the day and time that you can get there."

So apparently, its only law in NYS that a Dealer must include a 30 day warranty with vehicles they sell not labelled "as-is". SO it seems as if my new truck that i have sunk over 1K into already now needs another possible 1K in parts/labor.

Honestly, the law is the law. So i'm screwed here, however i'm more concerned with the principle of this ordeal as i was told a sales agent from their office drove the truck for a week before me and it drove beautifully. But i had to have the shot tires re-balanced as it vibrated at 40-75. And now i cant get the thing to take more than 10 cents at a time at the pump. You would think with a 26 gallon tank and getting 11 mpg they would have had to fill the truck (i do almost 2x per week). I honestly think there were issues hidden, and I'm calling the Dealer out on it.

Also wondering just how much profit a dealer makes off a used vehicle? According to this (if i took the deal to fix the canister) that would have been 1K off the total price, leaving no profit for them?! They cant be making only 1K profit, whats the point of selling this rig then?

My plan now is I'm going to fix it myself, the TSB parts are approximately $200 bucks, so $300 for my labor to install is worth it to me.
I am going to go after the dealer to get my $130 diagnosis fee i had to pay Lincoln for. I feel "cheated" out of this money for sure.

What do you guys think? Minus the fact i shoulda' bought new haha.

Do it yourself. It takes longer to drop the spare tire then to replace the canister. Tell the dealer to pay for the part since they were going to pay part of it anyways.

Sales person has now become unresponsive after my email saying i was disappointed and a phone call ending in a voicemail.

I have not been rude, yet.

Called the sales manager, he took all my information and proof. He says he will take care of it. Waiting response.

I have the same problem with my 2011 and made a thread about it a while back. They did the same thing you said blew out the line told me it was fixed and charged me 100 bucks. It wasn't but I didn't have time to fix it.
Was just in there and they told me about the tsb which was issued in December of 2014, and that it was 600 to fix it.
I was pissed and asked why they didn't have the tsb when I brought it in in may 2015, and that I already paid them to fix it but they didnt.
Service manager called me back an hour later and said they would eat the cost of it because they didn't fix it the first time and they should have with the tsb.
I was very happy obviously and they made it right. Parts were back ordered a couple weeks but I should have it in there next week. Don't back down they messed up

I don't have your specific line of truck but it seems like this is a DIY thing. They probably want to vent the line to clean out any EXISTING crud in the tubes but if you resolve the problem even minimal existing crud shouldn't be much of an issue. Even if not, rent an air compressor and blast the sucker if you can gain access to it.

DIYs are the best-selling at the end of the day. Tell them to write you a check for $480 and buy the part off whatever dealer gets you the best price and pocket the rest for the few cold ones you'll need to do the job.

I'm never taking my truck to the dealerships so long as I can avoid it.

I am having the exact same problem on an 07.
Was googling in a tree stand Saturday and found a thread on here.
Someone mentioned taking off a line when filling, and then put it back
on when full. I tried it and it worked, so apparently I have a carbon canister
issue I guess. I tried going back to find that thread but no luck.
Anyways look a the pic. Pull the line off that has the green valve on it.
It pops off real easy, and at least you will be able to pump gas untill you
get it fixed. Im trying to figure that out now.

Whoops,
somehow I missed page 2 on this thread
and saw that nojoke already described what I was saying.
Guess I need to change that canister under the bed.
I'm leaving my previous post with the pic anyways.

I have an 06. Where is this piece located? Under the hood I am guessing?

Is there a check valve or something in the system that goes bad as well

There is something before the carbon canister that may be causing the problem. When I bought the canister the guy told me the "whole assembly" was close to $600. I told him I just wanted the canister which was about $60.

Been filling the tank using nojoke's technique. Has worked well!

Just the other day i finally received all the TSB parts from the dealer. Includes the new gas cap, canister, canister vent pipe and updated tip for the vent tube.

I also went out an purchased a gator grip socket to help me drop the spare tire. Plan to do this next week weather permitting.

Didn't get a chance to do this yet as some home renovations consumed my time. The snow and single digits also hit last week. Thinking about having my buddy complete the work for me in his shop.
