Heed what AXracer stated about the title, I have a 59 Ford panel truck with no title. Make sure the truck is clear of problems before you invest more money.

Come on, tell us again that these are the same truck. Not. My guess is that the D70 is under the van that donated the wheels that won't mount on your 1/2" x 20 tpi studs. I won't say that no dual wheels will mount on those small studs, I'm just not aware of any. And again, the axle will be too narrow to give enough DRW spacing. Stu

Red face D'OH!

okay, feel like an idiot now... you're right! i accidentally uploaded the wrong photo! that axle is under a '71 F350 that i was looking at yesterday as a potential parts truck! (and yes, it is a dually).

sorry for the brain fart. that pic was the last one on the camera before the photos i shot of the '52 yesterday, so all were downloaded together.

my bad.

That axle should bolt up to your frame fine since both trucks have SAE standard 34" wide rear frame rails. And it is overall wider which would allow the inner duals to avoid frame rubbing. You'll have ancillary issues like brake plumbing, parking brake, and drive shaft yoke connections, but those aren't terrible hurdles. Stu

Question

Stu, since it looks like you edited your post (maybe more than once?) can you clarify for me which years/models I'd need to find a DRW axle swap and have it bolt up without modification? Thanks.

Others can correct me on that date if needed. Stu

Edit - correction. I forgot that you have the 6 x 7.25" pattern so you'd need an F-350 DRW axle from 1966 or earlier, or an IHC 130 or Dodge 350 axle of the same frame width. NO, STU, IT HAS AN 8 x 6.5" PATTERN!!!!! Stu

Yeah, edited and edited again! The 8 x 6.5" pattern DRW axle for use with 34" wide frame rails was first introduced in 1967, and retained to my recall having read here through 1975 (iirc) on the cab/chassis versions of the F-350. As I think on it there are probably E-350s that work too but I don't know whether they are same as F-350s. Take your tape measure when you do your yard searches. Su

now i can start the official DMV verification process to try to get legal ownership.

planning to tear into it tomorrow to get a good baseline of what all it will need as i prepare to go forward.

Thumbs up Where has the time gone?

Well, it's been a while since I've been back here on FTE… truck has been done for just about a year now (are they ever really "finished"?).

Figured I'd post some photos while I'm thinking about it. I do have intentions to someday complete a proper "build thread" to help give back to this outstanding community.

(I just glanced back at some of my early "newbie" posts, and it is amazing to me to think that I was able to build this truck from the ground up. )

So until then, have a gander at my '52 Rustomod:

Thanks again, Terry

That really looks great . You'd never run that here with no rear fenders but it looks like you've got the mechanical's worked out nicely . That is an interesting shifter .

Sterling 10.25 (from ‘88 F350 chassis cab).
Nope! 4.10s, but thankfully the E4OD has overdrive. Haven’t had it over 75 MPH — right about 2000 RPMs @ 60 MPH.

Thank you.
At the time, it was the only aftermarket shifter I could find for the E4OD. Winters Sidewinder.
