your choice!!
ok if I give you the choice of a 6.0L, or newer motor, which do you chose and why? which do you stay away from and why? I have the option of getting a truck with a blown motor for cheap.... duno if i can put a 7.3 L in it or not. 2007 F250 4X4. it did have a 6.0 L stock.
Also, I am not looking for the massive HP, sorry nothing can compare to the C-15's i have driven. I am looking for MPG basically
and thanks for all the input.

What's blown on the 6.0? I have had engines called bad that actually had bad injectors, bad crank position sensors, or other issues.
Easiest direct fix is another 6.0. Before install do the longevity upgrades spelled out in the 6.0 forum, and it should be good for quite a while.
A 7.3 would be the second easiest, but a 6.4 or 6.7 would be a nightmare between electronics and emissions.

I am gona have to relook at the truck.
it is a 2006 i think F250 Harley Davidson edition loaded out the wazoo.
about 11K cause of a blown motor.
I know the manager and we only talked briefely about it.
he says he can get a crate motor installed for 8k out the door.
he has had this sit now for over a month, so I am hopeing it will go down in price a some.
I will get more info, but i have read the 7.3 conversion can be a nightmare, and i dont know about the other way.
wife wants us to get back into a diesel, but I dont want to forfiet the youngest kid to do it.... well maybe, but you get the drift.
I had a 6.4L 2008 but had to trade it due to financial issues that have gone away.
I always heard the 6.0L were junk, but now a buddy of mine says not so fast. so I am really confused.
can I get a 500HP detroit shoved under the hood? I will be good for a million miles then.
**lastly another buddy said just look at the gasers... I want the heavy axels for the occasion I am going off road, rare but I have to have 4X4 for my job. and I havent heard anything on newer F250 or 350 crew cab MPG for gassers (new=last 10 yrs).
now help is much appreciated and when the forum opens for fixing a 4 loop nuclear reactor, I got your info... but on the smaller diesels I can read all day adds saying this or that but peoples real world experience means alot to me
thanks

You don't say if you have read the 6.0 section of this site. If you want fuel mileage and dependability, I would stay with the 6.0. Yes, I am biased, I have a 6.0.
The only weaknesses to the 6.0 is the oil cooler, EGR cooler and head bolts which can be fixed. You also don't say if you can do the work yourself. Either way, we can advise you on the fixes that will help to correct the 6.0 problems. All diesel engines have their problems, just read tis site and you will see.

If you look a my signature I have a 04 stock, 202K on the clock with no problems. Luck...maybe but I changed oil at 5K and fuel filters at 10K always tried to burn premium fuel, keeps things cleaner.
The 6.7 runs circles around the 6.0 as I have both. With the fifth wheel hooked up I have been know to squalk the tires on the 6.7. Just ask my son, he was riding.

well I took a 250 mile test drive the other day, it went into regen once, about 125 miles of that was on the interstate @ 72 mph.
new motor and with the cruse was getting 19.9 mpg the whole trip.
I never really "mashed" the pedal down to the floor, but did 2 quick accelerations and was very impressed at how quickly the motor came to life and moved the F250 crew cab 4X4.
