EGR leak...fix or delete?

Going in the shop next week for a leak on the lower cooler. I understand this may require a cab-off repair. with 175k miles and the desire to drive this truck another 5+ years, is it smart to fix the issue or delete the system? Thanks.

Cooler does not have to be a cab off. Most people delete the coolers (upper and lower) cab on anyways.

If you can delete and tune with out worries to your local laws then do it, you will have a much happier truck.

Just saw your sig weyland426, if you've already deleted the DPF with the H&S then the coolers should be no issue. There are a tons of delete kits out there ranging from $40-$150 and they are all virtually the same. Just takes a bit of research to find what you like.

Good luck.

Delete it. It's cheaper and better long run. Both coolers come out with cab on. I just did mine a week or two ago. Plan to spend a solid day or two doing it.

While you're at it, flush the cooling system.

Thanks guys...looking for delete kit to be overnighted. It was that cab-off term from Ford that scared the hell out of me...not that I would have them do the work.

There is a great video series on YouTube of a Ford Master Tech doing an EGR Cooler replacement. It's a lengthy process. Degas bottle, battery and dip stick tube all come off as well as disconnecting part of the steering. It was about 4 hours for me my first time. I could probably do it in under three now that I've done it.

LOL, that's the truth, the first time is like a expedition, the second I would think is much more to the point, some long arms and a three step ladder helps also.

Finally got around to having a local diesel shop delete the EGR Coolers after they diagnosing my coolant leak. Imagine my shock when I get a call saying "sorry, coolers are fine, it must be a head gasket...do you still want the delete? because the labor cost is the same either way at around $1200."

Might as well delete it too.

I'm not sure why people still talk about taking the cab off because there are a few videos that show those with the right tools can do it very fast. It's made to come off. No, I don't have the right tools.
