5.4 vs 6.2?

Hey guys. I have a 2008 f250 with the 5.4. Love my truck, but considering getting a 2011 with the 6.2. Is there a noticeable amout of power difference? Anything to be aware of with the 6.2? Any input would be great!

Plenty of threads about this. Check out the 6.2l forum further down on the homepage.

There is no comparison between my 03 5.4 and my 11 6.2. Way more power in the 11

To be aware of...
Spark plugs:
they don't break off like the 5.4, but there are 16 of them. Kind of took me by surprise!

I went from an 06 5.4L to a 12 6.2L, huge difference for me.

Huge power difference for sure as well as a couple more gears in the transmission. The 99-07's are by far my favorites when it comes to styling, but the 11 will definitely give you more power.

Why are they coming out with an electric super duty? Or maybe just put a hitch on a bicycle no spark plugs then.

5.4 is a decent motor. The 6.2 has a lot more power with relatively few problems.

The 6.2 has a full 85 HP more than the OP's 2V 5.4L engine. Most would say that's substantially more power.

I liked my 2000 5.4 when I had it.
It did everything I needed it to.
My 2015 6.2 though....no comparison. Pulls much harder for the same or less fuel.
I wouldn't sell a perfectly good running 5.4 just to get a 6.2, but if the 5.4 is tired, I wouldn't buy another one as long as I could afford a newer 6.2 truck.

I have not driven a 6.2 but after reading a lot about them I'm hesitant about getting out of my 08 5.4 as well. To me it seems that the horsepower increase comes from a loss of low rpm torque. The 5.4 won't win any drag races but one thing it does well is pull anything you put behind it.

The way some people complain about the low-end power you'd almost think that, but it's not true. I asked Mike Harrison, the chief engineer for the 6.2L engine, this question over five years ago during a Q&A session.

However, the 6.2L torque is much higher than the 5.4L throughout the engine speed range.
At no point do they cross.
The VCT is different. The modular engines use a dual equal oil pressure actuated VCT mechanism, while the new 6.2L uses a dual equal cam torque actuated VCT mechanism.
