You can probability buy Ford Racing wires from Summit, Jegs or somewhere else on
line as same or less price that you can buy Motorcraft regular wires from a Dealership.

Each will give good service on a stock motor. For a more performance engine I would
use the Motorcraft Racing wires or something similar from another manufacture.

There's nothing wrong with "racing" spark plug wires but they aren't going to do anything compared with OEM wires other than lighten your wallet.

Here's why. The voltage requirement needed to jump across the plug gap is all that is ever used. Maybe 12,000 volts or so. A 40,000 volt "high output" coil or "low resistance" wires doesn't change this, or actually apply 40,000 volts.

Most of it is marketing hype. Wider plug gaps and leaner fuel mixtures plus higher compression and loads does increase the voltage needed to fire the plug, but that is why even a stock coil is rated for around 20k volts, for a reserve. Good plug wires mainly have better quality insulation and boots. They need to resist oil and fuel and ozone, etc.

Did my usual VIN search at fordparts.com, but I continue to get a list that excludes a lot of parts, like plug wires.

I've even tried finding them using only my engine info, but continues to exclude 5.0L 302 EFI.

So, what wires would you guys recommend, if Motorcraft doesn't offer wire sets for my truck?

Why would my VIN not pull this part number? Is it just one of those phantom system things?

VINs are virtually no use on anything built prior to 1990 or so.

No offence intended, but I hear this from time to time these days, and it reminds me of something that was instilled on me at a very young age... Don't sweat the small stuff, but always pay attention to details; Anything worth doing, is worth doing right.

I do understand, in this day and age of instant gratification and cheap parts everywhere, the thinking behind just throwing any decent brand that works in, but there's something to taking the time to find the "right" part for the job. Not saying alternatives aren't out there, but knowledge isn't a bad thing, contrary to popular belief these days.

Now, with all that said, I've put everything from third party, to store brand parts in my vehicles on occasions where time or money are of concern, but have had some bad experiences (calipers, starting components, fuel pump, injection components, etc.) which have led to early or excessive wear or even catastrophic failures. This is why I try and put a little effort into finding the "right" part.

Well said! I also like to use OEM replacement parts when I can - especially for fuel and ignition.

Smb1913,

There were other sources available as well [on ebay]; just type in the Motorcraft part #.
