Is there a difference between a '56 and '54 lower grille balance pan. I'm thinking of buying a '54 grille but I don't want to waste a lot of money buying the lower part of I don't need it.

The '53 and '54 are unique for each year. The only two of the mid-fifty F-100s that are the same are the '55 and '56.

Yes. The "fangs" on the '54 grille actually stick through holes on the gravel pan.

You've made an excellent choice! The '54 is by far the most attractive grille out there!

I'm only amazed they don't still use it on new trucks today.

I miss the days when you could look at a new car or truck from one model year to the next and often know what it was at a glance.

thanks! I like it too because they're rare and I'm actually getting a great price for both.

Now all cars look the same and you can't even tell what make or model it is until you see the logos. Cars aren't unique anymore.

Update: I got the '54 grille and valance for a great cheap price, now I have to save up a bit for either chromed park lights or ready-for-paint park lights still debating but mostly leaning on the chrome side. Then I can try to install them if I know how

So I've been trying to figure out what year engine my 1954 f100 has and I see three different numbers. The heads have different numbers and also the dipstick. I tried finding one on the block but I have no idea if it even has one. The heads were C9OE and D0DE (or D0OE) and the dipstick was D0AE. The intake manifold says 351w so I was guessing it was from a truck from 78 but moaning guessing its not from a truck. So question is, where can I look to find the specific year of the engine?

On small block Fords, the date code is next to the casting code behind the starter. C9OE and D0OE heads would be 69 and 70 castings. One would think the block would be in that same neighborhood, but parts can be swapped around easy enough so anything could be possible. Those are good heads with larger intake ports and valves than 302 heads.

Thanks man. I'll check it out tomorrow to see what year the engine is.
