New guy with questions

Hello all new guy here, and new to fords too. My question is iv bought a 1970 f100 just a body no engine or transmission. The truck had a 302 auto in it last I was wondering what I'd have to do to put a 300 inline 6 in it? I'm getting mixed responses around here from from people iv asked some say you can and some say you can't. With out changing engine stands. Thanks in advance

Can be done.
You will need to change the engine perches.

Engine Perches

You will need to get a transmission with a bellhousing that fits the 300. I found a combo on Craigslist for $200 in Phoenix a while back. I will need to shorten my driveline, but other than that... it'll go in.

The ones on the top that say 6cly look more like mine than the bottom ones. I'm not sure what came in it it came out a 3 on the tree. But at some point it had a auto put in it.

You can decode the VIN to see what motor it came with... but that's no guarantee what it had last...

Six cylinder truck engine perches are the same as engine perches for an FE engine. 69-up 302 engine perches are different.

331,352,360,390,410,428 are all FE

429/460 is commonly referred to as big block ford

Out of curiosity, why not just put in another 302 and automatic? They're cheap and plentiful. You can do the 300, they're plentiful as well, but it will be more work. You'll need a radiator with outlets on the other side for the 300 as well. But if you have nothing for a 302 it doesn't make much difference. The engine stands will have to be changed, but that's no big deal.

To be honest iv just got a thing for inline 6s. I already have the engine, rad, I think most everything but a transmission and stands.
Iv not really made up my mind yet what transmission I want I first wanted a 3 speed but I'm thinking a aod know maybe.
Iv found a 67 f350 with a new 352 in a junk yard. I though about buying it that way I'd have everything, but I kinda stuck on this 300

If you want to drive it everyday and just tool around town, I would recommend a C-4. If you're planning on long highway miles, an AOD would be a better choice.

If you already have the 300, and you want a 6 cylinder, that changes everything! Definately use what you have. 300's put out plenty of torque, and you could add later model fuel injection too!

I came into this one right honestly iv got 350 buck in it and the engine right know, clean title and all. My first truck was a 77 f150 4x4 300 4speed. That kinda what got me stuck on the 300. That truck got sold on me to buy a stock trailer and iv wanted one every sense. I tried to find my old truck but it gone and I had a friend I worked with had this one for a parts truck, all he wanted was the engine and transmission out of it so I figure I'm not hurting on it so far. The whole engine stand thing what had me kinda stumped. Iv had Chevys every sense no reason really just what I ended up with. Know I'm in the ford in a big way though iv got this 70 and just picked up a 88 4x4 5speed 300 6 so I figured I better find someplace to learn about my new treasures lol. We had ford tractors all the time and I though is needed a truck to match.
