NEED HELP TESTING

Does anyone have a scanner to help me with a Contribution and Buzz test, and live somewhere close? I can go roughly Olympia to Vancouver/Portland.

Let me know, thanks!

HAHAHA, you'fe funny. No, serious, just making a little lightheartedness in lieu of your unfortunate situation. It may be a stretch to get one of these. I have never spent a better dollar, including the annual renewal fee for the Ford expansion pack, that has provided more bang for the buck. If you need it now, you will need it again, I promise you that. Compare that to the price of a master mechanic or go cheap and see how much it costs for a hack mechanic. In the end, you can grab a beer (wine or legally distilled spirit), research like a mad dog and buy an AE. Beer $10-20 for a "studying facilitation amount" and around $250-300 for an AE plus any tools which your probably want for Christmas (or holiday season) anyway puts you at about cost of the part on RockAuto and beer vice the price the dealer charges. It would cost you more than new to obtain mine. To obtain a new package, it will pay itself off in dealer repairs. Get one. That the best advice anyone can give. you.

You mean I have to pay some type of annual fee if I buy a AE?

You don't HAVE to pay a fee, the fee is only there if you want to keep updating AE to the latest and greatest.

AE got as far as it going to get with our vintage of trucks a ways back, so if you plan on just using for your 7.3 there is no need to worry. That being said if you have other, new or newer vehicles you wish to use AE in all its glory on then the update fee is an option to keep everything current. AE will still function as a code reader and have some limited further diagnostics for any vehicle with a OBD II port, but to access all the sensors and run all the tests the enhanced package for your particular flavor (Ford, Chebby, Dodge, Toyota, etc.) of vehicle is needed.

AE was by far the best money I have spent on this truck yet, and has paid for itself in less than 12 months when considering what dealers charge to read codes etc.

Yes. And I bought mine in 2011 and never have updated it. I only have used it on stuff older than that, so it hasn't been an issue. I also got the full domestic bundle which has come in handy a few times for friends with dodges and Chevys.

What you need is a [LINK] and an AE demonstration:

AE does the buzz, Cylinder Contribution Test, KOEO, KOER, and a host of other tests available on the 7.3L - even a wiper/washer activation. You can set your tire size by linking AE to the ABS module (a simple selection when connecting). You do need a Windows laptop to use it.

In a pinch, you can use an Android device with Car Gauge Pro and an OBDII adapter - but I consider this an emergency tactic. I don't like CGP, but it works for some people. I have Torque Pro for daily monitoring/logging, but I break out the AE when things get weird. You'd be amazed what you can find in there when you start looking for trouble. Many, many people have restored their truck to like new condition, without knowing beforehand that the truck was sagging.
