I have a 2012. My premium care warranty costed me like 950 bucks until 2020. For basically a couple hundred bucks a year to not worry about a 50K plus truck I'll take it.

I got it on my 2011. I just turned 51K miles and the driver power mirror has to be replaced. That's half the cost of the ESP right there.

correct, need to purchase before clock or miles expire.

I bought mine at 22000 miles, as I had the cash then. clock expires 11/10/15 for me on my 2012. just turned 30,000 miles

Insurance companies make huge profits for a reason. They always profit on average of all the policies. Insurance is a good idea if you can't afford to fix, or the government mandates it. ESP won't help cover fuel system issues (bad fuel), which is the highest probability of a costly repair. And 400hp isn't enough so once tuned warrantee is useless.

Put in my own bed liner, gonna add an under bed 5th wheel hitch, etc.
Actually, it is a truck, and we like truck pics! Don't be bashful, and certainly don't be ashamed. You got a great truck that fit your needs. Let's see it!

Oh I'm not ashamed, I like this truck a lot. It's just nothing fancy and you see one like it every day probably. But here are a few.

FOG, it looks like you are getting it ready to work, and I'm sure you will be pleased with the capabilities. What can I say, other than we are truck guys and like pics of all trucks - regardless of how fancy. Thanks for posting the pics! I bet you smile every time you turn the key and drop the trans into gear.

If you do decide to go with an extended warranty, go in knowing that the guy selling it is marking it up considerably. A buddy of mine is the F&I guy at a GM dealer. He says he sells EWP's for 3k when their cost is around 1200.

Also, that is the hitch I want for my truck, except its prolly gonna cost me about 500 bills total for the hitch and to getting it shipped to Canada . Looks like the 4" drop? How do you like it?

If you do it, don't buy from dealerships. Call Ford ESP direct in Detroit. Did that for my 2011 F250 and my 2010 GT500. Both have paid for themselves, and it wasn't for expensive mechanical things. Selling my F250, and offering the remaining 12 months of ESP with the sale. Transfer to new owner will only be $75.

Just bought my 2014 F350 used, and it only has 14k miles. I'll wait a little whileto buy the ESP, but I will likely do it because I've got the Lariat Platinum with bells & whistles that will bite me for the tech stuff.

Yes, it is the 4 inch drop. I just got it and have only used it once, but it showed me I should rearrange how I was loading tractors to get it right.

Is that because it's a lower price?

i bought my '13 with 34000 miles. 8000 miles later the radiator started leaking. 1600.00 is a fair quote for that. Not even 250 miles later, the primary water pump started leaking (although that was covered under engine warranty). only paid 2300 and some change for my 125k warranty. Id say im almost ahead. Plan on having your radiator go out.

When you look at the coverage from Ford the first 5 years and a 100k miles is mostly on them. Its the time and or miles beyond that 5 year time frame.

So you have to ask yourself some questions

1) Do I plan on keeping the truck LONGER that its warranty life?

2) Will I drive more miles in a shorter time then the length of the warranty?

In my case: I plan on keeping my truck longer than 5 years and I plan on driving less than the 100k miles so I am choosing a 100k mile with 8 years of life. I think for me that makes sense.

Thanks for some very good replies and info. I'm going to keep watching and learning here while I rack up some miles and see how my truck fairs. Like I noted above, I have very few bells and whistles on my truck. My mirrors are manual telescope and collapse, no heated/cooled seats, no nav, no touch screen, hell - I don't even have sync! But obviously radiator, alternator, etc. issues concern me and I will watch for trends on 16's as more get into circulation. Thanks again for all the good info!

Edit - forgot to add that I plan on keeping it longer than the factory warranty, but have had that same plan on my last two trucks but turned out I didn't. The one thing I am fairly sure of is that I will rack up the mileage limit long before the year limit.
