1994 F-150 Cab Dome Light and Buzzer Problem

Hi,
I have a 1994 F-150 XL. The cab dome light does not come on when the driver side door is open, but it will come on when the passenger door is open. The buzzer will come on when both doors are open, but then will shut off when one is closed. I replaced the driver side door switch. Is there a short somewhere? Are the light and buzzer on the same circuit? I know it is a small thing, but it kind of bothers me after a while, especially at night.

Another question: Is there supposed to be a seat belt chime? There isn't one as of now. The plug in the pedal box is plugged in but a wire may have been clipped somewhere along the line, which might be a cause of all of this.

Thanks for any help

can't comment on the buzzer or seat belt chime because both of mine were disconnected when i bought the truck and i am not remotely interested in having them work.
i do, however, have a 94 with exactly the same dome light issue that you have. i THINK i have narrowed it down to a break in the wire that runs under the drivers door sill ... not surprising considering the muck and grit that have collected down there. will let you know when, and if, i find it. too rainy this week to do much outside.

Thanks, I will try to work on it sometime this weekend and will post any results. I'll drag out the multimeter and see if I can't chase wires.

The dome light and buzzer are on separate circuits. Power comes in on the Light Green/Yellow wire. The Black/Light Blue wire send power to the dome light when the driver's door is open. The Red/Pink wire sends power to the warning chime module when the same door is open.

Thanks for the information. Are these wires located under the driver's door sill like Joey said? Or are they located somewhere else?

The wires come off the driver side door switch that you stated you replaced. The dome light wire probably goes under the door sill plate before it heads up to the dome lamp. The warming chime module is located under the dash near the center so that wire probably does not.

was able to work on this today. yes, the wiring to the dome light runs under the driver side sill cover.

of course, your problem is not necessarily in the same area, but mine occurred here ...

where 4 lt.green/yellow wires are spiced to 1 lt. green/yellow.

i wasn't expecting a problem there because the protective covering was in pristine condition, but there it was. the picture is poor quality, but right in the middle you can make out where the wire is badly deteriorated ...

the two wires just snapped off while i was handling them ...
.

fixed it up and not only did the dome light work, but my map lights, which haven't worked since the day i bought the truck, sprang to life ... yay !

good luck with yours.
