Engine oil

Hi guys. Newby here. Just picked up a '15 F150 XLT, Ruby Red, 302 option package, 3.5L EcoBoost.
Does anyone know what kind of oil these vehicles come out of the factory with, i.e. "Dino" oil, synthetic blend or full synthetic. Salesman, of course, didn't know, and the service department wasn't sure.

I asked that question at a Ford event and was told no special oils are used. Your truck come from the factory with the same oil you get at the dealer. That was a couple years ago.

Welcome to FTE and congrats on the truck! With the 3.5L ecoboost Ford specs 5W-30 oil as opposed to 5W-20 for all others except diesel.

If you change your own oil then I recommend that you continue to use motorcraft filters at a minimum and make sure to keep your receipts and maintain good records.

You'll probably have questions about dump cycles such as whether to follow the oil life monitor (OLM) or settle into a rhythm of your choosing. Neither answer is wrong, just depends on your habits and comfort levels.

The factory used conventional 5w30 oil, nothing special there. I prefer full synthetic for my peace of mind, but I don't think the engine really cares. Here's what the factory fill looked like on my '13 after 7,500 miles:

I just got the 2015 XLT 4X4 5.0...salesman said all come with standered oil. You can switch to blend or synth. as per the users manual...the oil life monitor is a guide only from what I see...I switched to synthetic on my Y2K150 5.4 & it kept things way cleaner. I also used lucas synthetic oil additive and use gas additive as well...I did this after 100k on it, and it now has 210k and the whole EGR syst. stayed cleaner...I plan on going this route right off the bat with my new truck...anyone else consistantly use additives for oil or gas? That might be for a different forum...don't want to hijack...

I wouldn't put a drop of anything but good quality motor oil in my engine. I read that you used Lucas in another thread but decided not to say anything.

Is the engine still running good because of the additive, or despite the additive? There are LOTS of those engines running good well past 300,000 miles that have never seen anything but regular dino oil. If your engine fails under warranty the Lucas will be blamed and you will be on the hook for the repair.

From the factory, it is Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5W30 in the Ecoboosts, 5W20 in Fords NA engines including the 5.0L

Good question...is the miles because of the lucas? My point was really to point out how much cleaner I felt the system was because I used it. Was not aware it would void my warrenty. If that's the case, I'll just go to full synthetic (which I do feel is worth it) and not use the additives...I didn't have to worry about that on the older one...thnx for the input..

Thanks for the answers guys. I always change (or have changed) the oil in a new vehicle at around 3K miles. I've gotten some surprising junk out of new engines, including a 3 inch long piece of aluminum shaving from the oil filter of a new '99 Volvo. After the first oil change, I'll run full synthetic oil, as I have in all of my vehicles for the past several years.

I thought that the owners manual said to use synthetic oil in the EB. I thought I saw this in a friends manual for a 2014 EB. Sounds like I was wrong.

I've been using Motorcraft Synthetic Blend from the dealer.
