Death Valley

Wow, really hit hard Oct 18th.

Largest Flood Event Ever Recorded in Scotty's Castle Area

It's a special place, no doubt this 1000 yr storm is but a drop in the bucket compared to a millennia millenniums of weather.

Simply amazing to see Badwater like that.

Thank goodness they saved the Pupfish.

Kinda reminds me of the late 70', early 80's when desert racing north on Mojave.
The road cutting across the alluvium from the Red Rock Cyn area, through Garlock to Randsburg, was frequently washed out due to these type of storms.

You knew you couldn't wander too far off course when racing as these rains caused sharp edged stream canals that could toss you over the handlebars in an instant.

And you'd crack two vertebrae in your neck when you landed on your head, and your buddies would have to load your bike for you, and your girlfriend would have to drive you home, and then nag you to go get an x-ray to confirm the reason for the pain.

Don't ask me how I know........

I heard there was flooding but nothing of that scale. Looks like my Christmas vacation plans might be trashed, I was really hoping to spend an afternoon at The Racetrack on my birthday.

Thanks for posting!

Hello, I am new to the forum. In the process of shopping for an Excursion.

We are camping in Death Valley and sand boarding with the Boy Scouts next weekend.

I know some places will be off limits but as of right now we are good to go at Furnace Creek.

Sand boarding is a blast and will burn more than a few calories! Keep hydrated out there- even in the fall.

I think the perfect time to visit Death Valley National Park is in early March.
