Correct door latch spring - finally!

A couple years ago I bought new springs for my door latches (the coiled ones) because I could see my DS spring was cracked at the center anchor point. C&G Ford had some springs they listed as for 48-52's, so I got them.

As part of rebuilding the latch assembly recently, I went to put the C&G spring in. No way! Just not right. I saw some others on eBay and corresponded with the vendor, "lwmofo", to see if he knew whether his were truly the right ones. He said he'd matched them against a NOS latch assembly, so I ordered them. They came and were exactly the same as C&G's. I sent him a picture of my old spring and he recognized it as being the same as a 38 - 47 Ford Truck spring, and sent me some to try. Perfect!

I sent C&G a note telling them of the discrepancy, they replied that they had heard from customers that the red springs "could work" on 48-52's. I sure don't know how.

Pics of the correct springs (black painted under the red spring) vs the C&G springs (red) and an original (rusty).

My door works like brand new now, and barely any sag on the handle.

Thanks for posting this info. I'll probably be digging this thread back up when I get to mine.

Good job there Ross, and I thank you as well for posting.

Looking at your photo, it is pretty obvious to me that the springs you got from C&G won't work.

They are NOT! Interesting tho, I also bought the remote handle springs from him, and he sent me some that were also wrong -- but he appears to have the correct ones shown in that auction?!

Excellent job on tracking down the right springs!!

Thanks

He's very good at communicating, so I would include a message that you want the 38-47 springs! He apparently doesn't have many left.

Ross, now that you have it all figured out, I guess I'll redo what I did this summer because I'm not happy with my handles yet! Thanks. Great job.

Hey Ross. The springs you got were part #78-702267? might get a pair for mine too. Not a bad price either. Thanks for the info

No, the 78-702267 are the Red ones, do not fit 48-52's.

I assume you are looking at C&G's store?

Yeah, I typed in 47 and door latch spring and there were 3 to choose from. Only 1 said fits trucks under it. That # is the black one , then there is a blue and a red.
