Advice on Towing and Setup

Thanks in Advance for any advice. I have a 2001 7.3 X. I upgraded the Intake and have a 4" exhaust. I just added the DP Tuner to it. I upgraded the suspension through CT Performance and have the V code and B code springs; 34" tires; 20" wheels, rear sway and it is on 2" hangers. I recently put in a new transmission (Jasper and yes I know I wish I knew more before putting it in there).

I am looking at or in the process of getting a new toy hauler (approx 35'). 9000lb dry but up to 13000 loaded. I live in AZ and would tow quite a bit through the mountains. I am thinking I may have to put in another transmission and am thinking a BTS. What advice would you all give as far as towing this much weight with the X. Transmission, gearing, or anything else?

I would be thinking about gears with those tires and that much weight. Probably 4.30's.

1st If I just put in any tranny I'd run it till it didn't.
2nd You need to know what gears you currently have ??
3rd you should look into a GOOD W/D set up & have it in place BEFORE you tow that TT as well as the correct tires (load rating) on the X & TT . also should have full set of gauges.
4th After you have pulled it you may want to look into bags, gears, coolers, EXxxxx said-a-tra.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-13'); });

Im pretty sure it has the 3:73 gears. I am not sure what eh W/D is. I have the E rated tires on there now. I have the EGT Sensor here and ready to install. Don't have the Analog gauges. I have DP-Tuner's Infinity. Thanks for your reply...

13000 seems heavy for the x. I tow 11000 regularly and with a good wd hitch you're probably good to go. I changed shocks and added air bags over what you have modded. Obviously a good trailer brake controller is a necessity. I tow mostly at sea level so i haven't re geared yet, but I'm sure there would be huge benefit to it.

With a trailer like that, I wouldn't use anything less than a Hensley or Pro-Pride for a hitch. A trailer that size can decide to put you upside down in a ditch under the wrong conditions, you want as much control as possible.

One of our regulars has one and I'm sure Tom will be along to comment since he tows long and heavy regularly.

Those hitches look like a good set up... $$$$ though but that is better than the alternative..

I would upgrade the front and rear springs as well. Air bags will help hold the actual weight but won't help all the other numerous shortcomings of the stock springs.

I would personally go with x and c codes but I'm sure if you already upgraded to v/b codes most will say they are fine

I think you need to think about your receiver hitch rating. At 9000 lbs dry your tongue weight would be about 1350 lbs and and 1950 loaded. (Figure 15% of trailer weight=tongue weight)
That's more than the capacity of the hitch. I think you can upgrade the bolts that hold the hitch to the frame but I think you may still end up short.
