1982 F100/F150 Radiator Options

I've done some searches but can't seem to find what I'm looking for...

I would like to get an aftermarket radiator and go with an electric fan setup, and whether I go this route or not, I plan on upgrading to a 3g alternator. Was wondering about the transmission though. Should I just get a separate transmission cooler?

Is the stock radiator split into 2 separate sections? One for the coolant, and one for the transmission fluid?

I know.. Dumb quesitons... Just trying to get a grasp on this...

Not really anything wrong with the radiator and am not having any cooling issues. Just wanted to do the switch over to an electric fan so I can remove the clutch fan and thought if I was going that far I might as well get a nice aluminum radiator also but wasn't sure about the tranny cooler..

I guess I should have asked if it's just a waste of money to get an aftermarket aluminum radiator and tranny cooler or just keep my existing radiator setup and just get a electric fan?

Why do you want to get rid of the fan clutch?

I would keep the existing radiator. Make sure you interlock the fans with the compressor clutch if you have A/C. The 3G will be mandatory if you get fans that actually work. Usually factory fans from the junkyard work better and flow more air than the aftermarket ones they sell in the stores. But they draw a lot of current.

Just switching to an aluminum radiator will cool better than a brass/copper unit.

Because I want to go with an aftermarket pulley and bracket set and want to lessen the load on the engine, and I guess because I can..

Already planned to get a 3G.. What factory electric fans would be a good fit?

Any electric fan setup for these trucks will be custom. You will have to make brackets and such to fit them up. You will have to go junkyarding to find some that may work.

I've seen where some have used a taurus fan, and another a Mark Viii. I guess it's just what they were able to find, not necessarily what fits better?
