I been running new old stock 7.00 x 17 US Royal Fleet tires on the front of my truck for about 17 years since I got my F-3 restored and on the road. They were showing their age and seemed to be unbalanced. They each had almost 2 lbs of weights on them. My balancer mechanic actually ran out of weights to fit those truck wheels, but 2 lbs. should be enough
Earlier this October I was at the Classic Car show in Hershey and bought a pair of Firestone 7.00 x 17 from Coker Tire. I got them on this week and they roll along smoothly at 55 mph without even being balanced. I am very pleased with them.
I have the original 2 piece wheels and am trained to change tires and I have the manual. I strongly suggest taking these to a shop where they handle truck tires unless you understand these and have the tools needed. Changing tires on these wheels could wear you our and kill you on the same day if you don't get the wheel rim back on right!

Patrick, can you tell me how to get them apart? I can not take wheels with tires to scrap yard or dump. Specific dump for tires only.

 

Simplest way to scrap the tires is to use a Sawzall to cut them off. Pull the valve stems first, and stand to the side while doing it. I don't see there's any reason to keep the 17" widow makers in service when there are safer alternatives. Stu
